Mrs. Julia Jason

Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to Minnie Ruffin Elementary School 2nd grade! My name is Mrs. Julia Jason and I will be your child's Math teacher this year. I hope you are ready for a busy and exciting year of learning! Each week we will study Louisiana Common Core Math Skills using Eureka Math! The Eureka Math program focuses on operations and algebraic thinking, numbers and operations in base 10, measurements, data and geometry.
In our school, learning is a team effort, where we work together in
achieving a common goal. To do this, I will utilize our 70 minutes of instruction to enrich your child's learning experience, send homework which supports classroom instruction, and keep you informed by sending home weekly papers of your child's work.

Grading Policy

There will be a minimum of 9 grades each nine weeks for math. Grades will come from homework, class activities, interactive math notebooks, weekly Eureka assessments and Math Facts in a Flash.

MCS Grading Scale
A  100-93

B  92-85

C  84-75

D  74-67

F   66-0

A few reminders to ensure continued success through the remainder of the school year:

  • Please check your child's BLACK BINDER every night.  Every student will receive a "Week at a Glance" which is sent home every Monday. This is just a weekly guideline and may have to be changed occasionally depending on changes in our daily schedule. The Week at a Glance will include weekly Reading vocabulary words, spelling list, Math, Social Studies, Science focus and Math News. Math News is a brief description created to give parents and students a better understanding of the concepts found in Eureka Math.
  • It is very important that your child review and complete all the homework assigned.  All homework given is just a review of what was taught in class. Homework is given Monday-Thursday. It will be checked daily for completion and a grade will be given at the end of the nine weeks.

  • Test papers and conduct sheets go home every Wednesday.  When you receive these papers, please review your child's grades, sign the front page and return all of the papers the following day.  If papers are not returned by Friday, I will discontinue sending your child's papers and you will need to view them at school.

  • Please continue to practice basic addition and subtraction facts with your child.

I am unable to meet with parents in the morning when students are entering the classroom or during instructional, as this takes away from valuable interventions and instructional time.  If you would like to schedule a conference, please feel free to call the school to schedule a time with the school counselor. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel free to contact me after school at 318-322-3447, ext. 4607 or by

Thanks for all you do!
